10 Things I’m Thankful For
1. My mom. I am thankful for my mom because she does so much for me and I always appreciate every little thing she does for me. If I’m sick she always makes me my favorite foods and treats me like a princess. Even when I want to go shopping she’ll take me and we’ll have fun together.
2. My dad. I am thankful for dad because he takes me hiking and keeps me down to earth. He also likes to play a lot of sports with me like tennis and basketball. If I’m bored on a nice summer day he will always be there to take me to the tennis courts.
3. My brother Mike. I am thankful for my brother Mike because even though we bicker a lot we still get along sometimes. If we’re on a family road trip for some reason we can play games and keep each other company.
4. My dog Charlie. I am thankful for Charlie because whenever I’m sad I can always count on Charlie to cheer me up and make me happy. Although he’s a big, furry golden retriever I still love him and can’t wait to see his face in the morning when I get up.
5. My best friend Caroline. I am thankful for Caroline because she always makes me laugh. We’re neighbors and we met when I was 3. We have been friends ever since. Although she is a year younger than me that hasn’t really bothered me because we have always been very tight and we have a ton of inside jokes.
6. My grandma. I am thankful for my grandma because I always have a lot of fun with her whenever I go over to her house. We love going out to eat together because she loves the company and I just like being with my grandma. It’s also very convenient that she lives right across the street from me.
7. Cheer. I am thankful for cheer because it’s always fun to do and expresses my personality. I have met a lot of friends through cheer and they always cheer me up when I see them. Sometimes practices can be really hard and long but in the end it’s all worth it.
8. My rabbit Hammie. I am thankful for Hammie because he has a huge personality and he always makes me smile. Hammie thumps his foot when he is irritated and hops high into the air and clicks his feet together when he is happy. I have had Hammie for about 3 years and he is litter box trained and jumps around our whole house.
9. My guinea pigs Ginger and Sadie. I am thankful for Ginger and Sadie because they are a lot of fun to hold, pet, and to just be around. Ginger is a long haired white and brown female and Sadie is a short haired black and brown male. Both of the guinea pigs squeak when they’re happy or excited.
10. Channel 95.5. I am thankful for channel 95.5 because whenever I am bored or in the car I can always count on 95.5 to play the latest songs. I love most of the songs they play and they have a lot of contests you can participate in or even possibly win.

Old friends, new friends- I started Stevenson with many friends. Some of those friends were Melissa, Bari, and Isabelle. While at Stevenson I also meet a lot of new friends. Some of those friends are Katie, Annie, Ashley, and Jenny. I met them through the classes we have together and from cheer.
SHS activities attended-I have attended all of the freshman football games because I cheer at them. Although sometimes the games are cold it’s always really fun. I also went to the freshman dance with my friends. That was also really fun. My friends and I also went to a varsity football game but it was really cold and there were bugs everywhere. Soon I will be going to the Homecoming Dance.
Funniest, Weirdest, Scariest moments- The weirdest moment of the year so far was when a random kid came up to me and started talking to me about C lunch. Then the kid just walked away. The funniest time of the day is lunch because of Bari. The scariest day of high school so far was the first day because I didn’t know what to expect and I didn’t know if I had friends in some classes. The first day turned out to be okay. I found out that I had friends in every class.
Hardest, easiest class and assignments- The hardest thing to do was studying for Mrs. Bergeski’s unit test. My easiest class is either Biology or French. The hardest class assignment was the thirteen paragraphs we had to write for Mrs. Bergeski’s class. That took me a long time to do.
Top five current events- One of my favorite current events was the one about Ardi. She was a 4.4 million old skeleton they found. I also liked the current events about the Lions winning their first game in three years, Noble peace prizes, and all or the earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Faces in the News- President Barack Obama won the Noble Peace Prize. Governor Jennifer Grandholm vetoed a portion of the LPS money. Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland.
Interesting new words- Some new words that I have learned this year are ethnocentric, opaque, and inquisitive.
Popular or Memorable songs- Some of my favorite songs right now are “Halo” be Beyonce and “Now I’m that Chick”. I love listening to 955 too.
Popular or memorable Movies- One of my favorite movies would have to be She’s the Man. It’s really funny and Amanda Bynes is in it and when I was younger I used to love her. I also like the movie Twighlight.
Rumors and Gossip- Jon and Kate have split and their eight kids (Mady, Cara, Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Collin, Aiden, and Joel are in the middle of it. They used to all be a part of the show “Jon and Kate plus 8” and one of TLC’s biggest success’s. They were going to start a show called Kate plus 8 but they can’t because Jon won’t allow them to.
Fads and Trends- For fall the latest trends are plaids and moccasins. Early this summer the trends were neon nail polish and gladiator shoes. In the winter of last year UGG’s and small bows in your hair was in.
First Cultural Event- My first cultural event was at Hartwick Pines State Park. I wrote a paper on it. Hartwick Pines State Park was a park with a lot of trails and paths to walk on. It was full of trees and nature. There was also an old mining site we could look at. It was very peaceful there.
Homecoming- Homecoming was really fun. My friends and I went to my house for pictures then went out to Max and Erma’s to eat. Although our waiter was really slow it was still fun because everyone was admiring our pretty dresses. Then we went to the dance. The dance was so much fun. After that we went to my friend’s house and had a party/sleepover.
Advice to Freshman- I would suggest to all future freshman to study hard and to get involved. When you are involved in an extracurricular activity it is so much more fun because you get to meet a lot of new people and you have something to do if you ever get bored.
What I’m looking forward to- I’m looking forward to the winter season. I love coming home from school and having a warm hot chocolate. I also like sledding with my friends. I’m also really looking forward to the competitive cheer season. It’ll be hectic but it will be fun too.
Other noteworthy achievements and events- I made the freshman sideline cheer team in May. It is really time consuming but also fun. Over the summer I went to Mackinaw Island with my friends and family.

American Culture
Boom, Boom, Boom! Multicolored fireworks glisten in the sky and come falling down to the ground. People watch in awe around their family and friends. This is 4th of July and it’s just one of America’s unique holiday celebrations and a big part of its culture. The USA is very unique from other countries. America has many holidays that other countries don’t have. We celebrate Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, Flag Day, and many, many more. We eat different foods at different times than other people across the world and we wear unfamiliar clothing to people from across the globe.
I would define American culture as unique and happy. American culture is unique because of the food we eat and the celebrations we celebrate. Americans tend to eat a lot of fast food. Fast food is a very easy way to get a meal when you don’t feel like making anything or even for a quick snack. Other countries like France don’t have fast food. People from France don’t even have a French word for fast food. They just call it fast food like us Americans. America is a happy place because America has a great education system for kids ranging from grades pre-school to 12th grade seniors in high school. America also has very few homeless people roaming the streets, which makes it a bit safer. America also has food pantry’s that feed people who can’t find a way to get food. Last but not least most Americans have a place to live, water to drink, and food to eat. This is why America is a happy and unique country.
I think my culture is very common with what the average American culture is. I eat dinner with my family every Saturday and Sunday, I go to church on Sunday, I wear American clothing, I eat American food, and I celebrate every American holiday from St. Patrick’s Day to Christmas. I think I do almost everything in an American way and that is why my culture is American culture.
