Christmas Eve Tradition
By: Stephanie Messineo
My family and I have many traditions. We have certain traditions for each holiday. For Thanksgiving we have a huge feast at my house. On Christmas we have an even bigger feast at my house. On Christmas Eve my family including my cousins, and aunts, and uncles all go to my Grandma Vandenberg’s house. That’s my favorite family tradition. We always go to my Grandma’s house around 3:00 p.m. Everyone is all dressed and ready to go with their pretty dresses and heels or handsome sweaters. We drive there and once we get there we just sit around and talk. While we are doing this we are usually munching on chocolate fudge (that my uncle makes) and shrimp with dipping sauce (my Grandma’s specialty). Then at 5:00 p.m. we all gather around the dining room table and sit down and eat. We always have deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, ham, and coleslaw. We always have extra foods every year. After dinner is finished all of the kids (my cousins, Hillary, Dougie, and Chris, and my brother and I) play Mario and Donkey Kong on my Grandma’s very, very old antique gaming system. Then our parents holler at us and we go to the 7:00 p.m church service. When we go back to my Grandma’s we open presents and play more Mario and Donkey Kong. When we open presents I always sit right next to the television. I love our family tradition for Christmas Eve!
